Screening for Shorting Opportunities ๐Ÿ“‰

Not every chart needs a trade. Sometimes the job is simply to identify where the risk/reward starts becoming interesting. While screening for potential shorting opportunities, I came across this setup. The idea was to combine market structure + liquidity + imbalance + trend rather than short simply because price was falling. ๐Ÿ” What caught my attention? 1️⃣ Bearish structure Price had already experienced a strong decline and was trading below a downward-sloping moving average. That suggested that the broader momentum was still favouring sellers. 2️⃣ Equal High = liquidity above The Equal High marked on the chart is an area I would watch closely. Rather than assuming resistance will hold, I look at clustered highs as a potential area of buy-side liquidity. A move toward or through that area can become important when assessing a potential reversal. 3️⃣ IFVG — potential resistance The purple Inverse Fair Value Gap (IFVG) becomes the key area I'm watching. If price retraces into this z...

Contrarian Trading framework

๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸปContrarian Trading ≠ blindly going against the trend. ๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸปContrarian Trading = identifying a potential mismatch between what the market is currently pricing/doing and what the broader structure suggests. And the important part is ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป ๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸปYou don't need maximum conviction to take a position.  ๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸปYou need the right position size for the level of conviction you have.

Warren Buffet: When The DCF Has To Convince You,Walk Away.

At Berkshire’s 1996 annual meeting, Charlie Munger pointed out that he had never seen Warren Buffett actually do a DCF. Buffett’s response was revealing: If you have to do the calculation with pencil and paper to determine whether an investment works, it may be too close to think about. ๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸปThe lesson isn’t to ignore valuation. It’s to look for opportunities where the economics, price and margin of safety are compelling enough to be obvious. Use the DCF to test your thesis - not manufacture conviction. If the investment only works because of heroic assumptions, move on. Source ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป Buffett and Munger Unscripted 1996 Berkshire Hathaway Annual Meeting.

When Your Chart Looks Bullish… But Momentum Says Otherwise

 Every Chart Has A Story ๐Ÿ“Š This chart is a good example of how higher-timeframe structure and lower-timeframe momentum can diverge before a decision point. Price is holding intermediate support levels on the longer time frame (HT) & is still in an uptrend. The trend on the shorter time frame(LT) is indicating loss of upward momentum.  ๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸปI would not initiate an overnight position especially over the weekend. Possible Entry Zone๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป If The Open is above intermediate support + price holds above the first 30-min low. Only If both the conditions hold ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿปthe open confirms the higher time frame structure & the 30-min low confirms the short-term isn't breaking down. Position Sizing๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป Simply put I would look to initiate either 1/3rd of 1/4th of my allocation and look to pyramid or close out my trade depending on how the market moves.  ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Note  Keep an eye on the advance/decline ratio for broader market health, and check the economic and earnings calendar ( pre...

HFT Trading Systems in C++

  HFT is not simply about writing faster code.  It sits at the intersection of software engineering, computer architecture, quantitative thinking, and market microstructure. Key areas worth mastering ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป C++ & Memory — cache locality, data-oriented design, allocators, zero-copy techniques ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Concurrency — atomics, memory ordering, SPSC ring buffers, lock-free design ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Hardware — CPU cycles, cache lines, false sharing, NUMA affinity ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Networking — kernel bypass, DPDK, NIC optimization, multicast market data ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Market Microstructure — limit order books, queue position, price-time priority, adverse selection ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Quant — probability, expected value, estimation and risk Coming from an trading background, I see the challenge from both sides:  understanding why markets move and understanding how technology determines how efficiently you can respond. The real edge comes from connecting the two. Think in nanoseconds. Trade in probabilities. Disclaimer ...
